How did this ‘Million Pound Home’ barn conversion begin?

“I wanted to build a million pound house.” That was the vision of Stephen Corrigan, owner of Lynnic Associates Ltd. When it came to choosing doors and windows, the design had to reflect the ambition of the build.

In spring 2017, Steve and his wife Nicola contacted us during the early planning stages of their project. They were creating four new-build barn conversion style homes in rural Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The largest of the four – Dunston Barn – would be their own home and set the tone for the rest of the development.

What made the front door such a standout feature?

For a home of this standard, the entrance had to make a statement. Steve and Nicola wanted something that combined bold design with precision craftsmanship.

We delivered a unique timber front door using vertical-grooved Accoya. The door featured:

  • A flush finish with no external or internal handles
  • Rebated finger pulls for minimal visual disruption
  • Tectus 3D concealed hinges
  • A clean, modern profile that is rarely seen in timber designs

It was unlike anything else. This was a true one-off – tailored to the client’s exact vision and engineered for performance.

What windows were used at Dunston Barn?

The property needed a balance of traditional character and modern design. That meant square flush openings, large glazed areas, and sharp detailing.

For this first home, we supplied:

  • Hardwick flush casement windows for slim, square openings
  • Large bespoke glazed screens to maximise views and natural light
  • Melbourne entrance doors, including both solid and glazed options
  • A consistent Slate Grey finish across all elements for a modern touch

Everything was precision-made and factory-finished to ensure long-term durability and a seamless appearance.

Why were we chosen for the rest of the homes?

After seeing the quality of our products in their own home, Steve and Nicola asked us to supply the same level of design and performance for the other three properties in the development.

Each of the additional homes featured a similar style. Modern barn-inspired layouts with sleek flush windows, generous glazing, and strong architectural detailing. The trust built during the first installation carried through to the rest of the project.

“The quality of the windows and doors had to match every other part of the build. That’s why we chose Gowercroft.”

Who was involved in the project?

The barn development at Dunston Barn was designed by RIBA Chartered Architect Jillian Mitchell, with building control support from the Derbyshire Building Control Partnership.

We worked closely with the design and construction team to ensure the windows and doors enhanced the architecture. Our products helped shape the modern yet rural identity of the homes.
