A Hopper Casement Window for Heritage Projects
Hopper windows are traditionally found in barns and stable blocks. They look much like a regular casement window, but are hinged at the bottom and open inward. Originally, they were used in barns to keep high level airflow over livestock, to prevent stale air, smell and disease, with the increase in barn conversions in recent years these are being used to replicate the traditional style of the barn while offering high level ventilation. These windows typically feature a fanlight catch at the top and a restrictor to set the maximum opening.
Key Features
- Manufactured from Accoya, the best longevity of any timber together with exceptional energy efficiency.
- Pilkington Spacia vacuum cavity glazing, delivering U-values comparable with modern double glazing, but with a total thickness of only 6.2mm. No double refection makes it perfect for use in conservation areas.
- Fully concealed gaskets.
- Traditional butt hinges, cockspur handles and casement stays in a range of styles and finishes.
- Slender 18mm glazing bars and thin profile of the windows reduce the perceived width of the sections. External bar designed to replicate the traditional appearance of putty pointing.
- Glazed and spray finished exactly as our other products, with all the benefits of performance and longevity. This product comes with our full 10-year guarantee and is eligible for TimbaCare.

Heritage Windows Case Study - Quarry Cottage
Sylvia thought that our heritage windows were the perfect addition to her quaint stone cottage in Belper, Derbyshire. Although there was no requirement for a Heritage product to be fitted, she loved the design so much she had them installed regardless because they matched the style of the house and it's surroundings so well.
