The Clement Heritage Hopper Casement Window

You unlatch the catch and pull the window gently towards you, tilting it open just enough to let the fresh air drift inside. Beyond the glass, the farmyard hums with life. Dust swirls as straw is tossed from the cart, but none of it makes its way inside. The inward-opening hopper window keeps everything out but the fresh country breeze.

Originally designed for barns, hopper casements were used to create high-level airflow over livestock, preventing stale air, odours, and disease. As barn conversions have become more popular, these windows are now chosen to replicate the traditional style of agricultural buildings while providing effective high-level ventilation. Typically fitted with a fanlight catch at the top and a restrictor to set the maximum opening, they ensure both authenticity and controlled airflow in converted farm buildings and rural homes.

Their compact size and ability to keep out rain, dust, and debris also make them a popular choice for basements and below-street-level properties, where fresh air is needed without unwanted dirt or moisture. The Clement can also be configured as a toplight, allowing additional ventilation above doors or larger windows while maintaining a period-accurate aesthetic.

The Clement Heritage Hopper Casement Window preserves this tradition, enhanced with modern materials and technology.
