The Amazing and Exclusive Restoration of Templeton House

At Gowercroft Joinery, we believe true craftsmanship lies in balancing historic authenticity with modern performance. Templeton House, a 240-year-old Georgian mansion on the edge of Richmond Park (formerly home to Sir Winston Churchill and a filming location for Downton Abbey), is a shining example.

Appointed by Richstone Properties, our team manufactured award-winning timber windows, bespoke doors and specialist joinery to help restore this remarkable building. It was a project steeped in history… and one that demanded nothing less than perfection.

To meet the challenge, we developed the Winston Heritage sliding sash window: an innovative product that combined traditional Georgian detailing with the very latest in material science. Every window was handcrafted using Accoya® timber and ultra-efficient vacuum glazing, preserving the building’s timeless appearance while delivering outstanding energy performance.

Meticulous attention to detail was essential. From replicating delicate putty lines to preserving original ironmongery (and crafting individually sized frames for each unique opening), every element was carefully considered. The result was not just beautiful windows, but an authentic restoration that has earned international acclaim.

Templeton House is now regarded as one of the finest examples of Georgian restoration in the UK. Gowercroft’s work was recognised with the British Woodworking Federation’s ‘Woodworking Project of the Year’ Award.
